Kyabram wait to see extent of Mattingly injury

Kyabram will wait with bated breath for the results of a set of scans on Friday following the Bombers’ 28-point win over Rochester.

That’s because they belong to key Bombers’ star and assistant coach Mick Mattingly, who hobbled off the park with what appeared to be a knee injury.

The premiership star and reigning best-and-fairest came off the ground in the second quarter of the Good Friday clash against the Tigers before being assisted to the change rooms by trainers, taking no further part in the game.

Mattingly had collected 10 disposals to that point and looked in ominous touch with the ball in hand, but will now wait to see what part he plays in Ky’s campaign in the immediate future.

After a 2024 campaign cruelled by injury, Mattingly produced a prolific 2025 campaign that culminated in the Wilf Cox Medal in Kyabram’s grand final victory.

Meanwhile in the Murray League, Congupna will wait to see how star forward Kyle Mueller pulls up after the Road spearhead copped an errant knee to the back against Mulwala.

The Road claimed a convincing 49-point win over Mulwala in round one but did so without Mueller available for the majority of the game after the first-quarter injury ended his day early.

“He just copped a knee to the back and we’re just waiting to find out the exact timeframe for that one over the next week or so,” Congupna coach Ben Bingham said.

“We’ll wait until it calms down a bit and see when he’ll be right.”
