A car has collided with a child on an e-scooter in a minor incident on Thursday, March 26.
Emergency services were called to the scene in Kialla at around 8.45am.
Police said the vehicle was travelling east on Sanctuary Dve when it collided with an 11-year-old girl, who was crossing the road on an e-scooter near the Wendouree Dve intersection on her way to school.
“The driver was not at fault,” police said.
The girl sustained minor injuries and was taken to Goulburn Valley Health by ambulance for observation, police said.
Shepparton Highway Patrol Sergeant Janne Kennedy said the incident served as a reminder that it was illegal for children under 16 years old to ride e-scooters.
“Parents need to know to keep kids off them. They’re dangerous,” Sgt Kennedy said.
She said there were problems that anyone could buy e-scooters, but the rules about who could use them were not explained properly to them.
“We would talk to several people a shift (about it),” Sgt Kennedy said.
