Remembrance Day services will be held in towns throughout the Goulburn Valley on Tuesday, November 11, to remember those who fought and died for Australia.

All ceremonies will include a wreath laying ceremony, as well as a minute’s silence at 11am.
Shepparton
The Shepparton service will be held at the cenotaph on the corner of Welsford and Fryers Sts in Shepparton.
The service will start at 10.30am.
The guest speaker this year will be Kyriakos ‘Ken’ Tsirigotis, who served in the Australian Army for 22 years, with the majority of time in the Royal Australian Infantry Corp as a reconnaissance paratrooper.
Since his time in the Australian Defence Force, he has also worked at Melbourne Legacy where he held various roles including chief operating officer, and in recent years has filled several positions on the Victorian Veterans Council and was the operations lead for the Legacy Centenary Torch Relay.
A memorial plaque recognising World War I nurses who trained in the Goulburn Valley will also be unveiled at the cenotaph.
Mooroopna
The Mooroopna service will be held at the Mooroopna cenotaph in McLennan St.
The service will start at 10.30am.
Guest speaker will be Adrian Ambrose, who is a former school teacher and retired lawyer.
He is also a local history buff who has a lot of knowledge about wars and returned soldiers.
Numurkah
The Numurkah service will be held at the cenotaph in Memorial Park on the corner of Saxton St and Tocumwal Rd.
The service will start at 10.30am.
Part of the service will also include a fly-over of planes in formation.
Nathalia
The Nathalia service will be held at the Memorial Gardens in Elizabeth St.
Attendees are asked to gather from 10.30am, for an 11am start.
The service has been organised by students of St Mary’s of the Angels Secondary College in conjuction with Nathalia-Picola RSL sub-branch members.
Students from Nathalia Secondary College, Nathalia Primary School and St Francis Primary School will also be involved in the service.
Tatura
The Tatura service will be held at the Mactier Memorial Gardens on the corner of Casey and Hogan Sts.
Attendees are asked to aim for a 10.30am arrival, with the service starting at 10.40am.
Guest speaker will be veteran Mark Stephens who served for 33 years in the Australian Army’s Royal Australian Infantry Corps, rising to the rank of Regimental Sergeant Major.
He currently serves on the board at the Shepparton RSL where he is responsible for curating and managing the RSL’s military memorabilia collection.
He has also been awarded the Order of Australia Medal in recognition of service to the Australian Defence Force.
Murchison
The Murchison service will be held riverside at the Murchison War Memorial in Stevenson St.
Attendees are asked to gather at 10.20am, for a 10.30am start.
City of Greater Shepparton Cr Paul Wickham will be the guest speaker, speaking on behalf of council.
Violet Town
The Violet Town service will be held at the war memorial in Cowslip St.
The service will start at 10.45am.
Violet Town RSL sub-branch president Joe Martin will do the address at the service.
Among the things he will do is read out letters about the deaths of two brothers in World War I.
One letter, about the death of Sydney Pentland in Gallipoli in November 1915, was written to Sydney’s mother by his commanding officer.
The other is a letter from the Red Cross to their sister, advising of the death of another brother, DB Pentland, on the Western Front on October 5, 1917.
While both men were not from the area, a relative in Violet Town has them.
Nagambie
Nagambie’s service will be held at the war memorial in High St.
The service will start at 10.25am.
Strathbogie Shire Mayor Claire Ewart-Kennedy will speak at the event.
Stanhope
The Stanhope service will be held at the Stanhope Primary School Memorial Gates, at Stanhope Primary School on the Midland Hwy.
Attendees are asked to be at the gates at 10.45am, for an 11am start.
Guest speaker will be Stanhope RSL sub-branch secretary, and veteran, George Gemmill, who will speak about the school’s memorial gates, which honour past students who went to war.
This service will be followed by a secondary service in the school grounds that the school children will be involved in.
A barbecue lunch, supplied by the Stanhope RSL sub-branch and men’s shed, will follow this in the school grounds.
Kyabram
Kyabram’s Remembrance Day service will be held at the Memorial Gardens in Allan St.
The service will start at 10.50am.
Campaspe Salvation Army majors Greg and Lynne Turnbull will be the guest speakers for the day.
Euroa
Euroa’s Remembrance Day service will be held at the Euroa RSL sub-branch in Kirkland Ave.
The service will start at 10.50am.
Dookie
Dookie’s Remembrance Day service will be held at the Memorial Wall in Dookie in Mary St.
The service will start at 10.30am.
Resident Hannah Hamilton will be the youngest ever guest speaker at a Dookie service.
The Year 12 student will focus on the less canvassed war in Korea and also the Vietnam War from which Dookie has several returned ex-servicemen.
