Hosted by the Victorian Fisheries Authority, the free event will feature a full day of expert presentations, hands-on advice and the latest insights into native fish conservation and recreational fishing.
VFA chief executive Travis Dowling said the event continued to bring together passionate anglers who cared deeply about the state’s most iconic native fish.
“Our ‘codference’ brings together passionate people who care deeply about Murray cod, plus it’s a great way to get ready for the summer cod fishing season ahead,” Mr Dowling said.
This year’s keynote speaker is Taka Kawasaki, head of product development at Japanese tackle giant Daiwa, who will discuss international trends in big fish technology.
Mr Kawasaki is also keen to experience Australia’s booming Murray cod fisheries first hand, at places such as Lake Eildon, which has benefited from the VFA’s record-breaking fish stocking program.

Returning favourite Lubin Pfeiffer will share his best native fishing experiences and lessons learned, while Colby Lesko will reveal his countdown to the nation’s best impoundment cod fishery. Gage Wright from Spinwright Lures will also tell the story behind his journey into spinnerbait making.
Popular YouTube angler Robbie Alexander, will explore the social and mental health benefits of casting a line. North-east fishing specialist Andrew Colston will offer insights into his clearwater cod techniques, and Alan Bonnici from FishingMad will highlight 10 urban waters near Melbourne where anglers can hook a native fish this summer.
Other speakers include Cassie Price from OzFish and Steve Vidler from Fishtech Services.
The VFA will also provide updates on key projects, including breakthroughs in breeding Macquarie perch at Snobs Creek and ongoing efforts to tackle Australia’s carp infestation.
In the afternoon, the hot topic of live scoping will take centre stage, with a panel discussion led by Steve Threlfall from local tackle store Trelly’s, inviting audience participation.
“The 2025 codference will be more exciting than catching a ‘metrey’ off the surface, almost, so grab some mates and make the trip to Shepparton for a great day out,” Mr Dowling said.
The Murray Codference will be held at Riverlinks Eastbank from 9am to 4.30pm. Entry is free and includes lunch.
