On Wednesday night, the Lions’ A grade mentor, who also captains the Boroondara Express in the Victorian Netball League, was named in the midcourt in the VNL Team of the Year.
But her peerless year deserved more that that, which was soon reflected in the league’s Most Valuable Player voting, where she polled 30 votes from 12 of a possible 18 matches to be named the Marg Caldow Award winner by a healthy margin.
When it rains, it pours, however, with Adamson’s Wednesday night achievements paling in comparison to the announcement that was made on Thursday morning.
For the 2026 season, Adamson will trade her Seymour dress for an all-orange strip, having been unveiled as an off-season signing for the Giants in the Suncorp Super Netball league.
It caps a remarkable return to the court for Adamson, who sustained a season-ending knee injury in the early part of 2024, one which only compounded her doubt about ever making a full-time run at the top flight she got a taste of after debuting as a top up player for the now defunct Collingwood side in 2022.
“Words can’t explain how grateful I am to have been provided this opportunity,” she said.
“It’s true when they say things happen when you least expect them because getting an SSN contract definitely wasn’t on my radar.
“I had thought my opportunities to get back to the SSN had passed and I spent a period of time learning to accept that what I had achieved was still great in the big scheme of things.
“So to be able to get this contract, get an opportunity to immerse myself in an elite environment and learn off some of the greatest in our game, as cliche as it sounds, is a dream come true.
“I can’t wait to get into the Giants environment and get to know all of the players, coaches and high-performance staff and be pushed beyond what I have been.
“The facilities they have are insane. I’ve only heard great things about Ned (Nerida Stewart) as a coach, but also how she cares about the person beyond the athlete and how well she can bring a group of people together to achieve great things.”
The Giants side finished sixth in the recently completed 2025 SSN season with a 5-9 record, although head coach Nerida Stewart is confident the signing of Adamson will help propel her side back into the finals mix.
“Casey is an exciting addition for us,” Stewart said.
“She’s had to overcome some tough setbacks, but what’s impressed me most is her work ethic, her leadership, and the way she carries herself on and off the court.
“She brings real versatility to our midcourt and has that unique balance of calm composure with a fierce competitive edge. Her ability to see the play develop and execute under pressure is a real asset.”
There is unfinished business in the Goulburn Valley League for Adamson to attend to first, however, with the Lions currently on a nine-game winning streak and threatening Euroa’s spot in the top two just a fortnight out from finals.
