At just 20 years old, operations officer, Mia has already made a significant impact in her eight months with the council.
Drawn to a role that offered outdoor work, heavy machinery operation, and a supportive team environment, Mia quickly found her niche.
“No two days are the same, and I really enjoy the mix of tasks, the changing work locations, and the tangible sense of progress we make in our community,” Mia said.
“I've been treated with absolute respect and fairness since day one.
The team here is incredibly inclusive, supportive, and easy to get along with.”
Federation Council mayor, Cheryl Cook said Mia’s story was truly inspiring and perfectly showcased the opportunities available in local government, regardless of gender.
“Her confidence in operating graders and managing road maintenance is not only vital for our community's infrastructure but also sends a powerful message to young girls everywhere,” Cr Cooke said.
“Operating machinery or working on roads isn’t just for men, it’s for anyone with passion and dedication and we are incredibly proud to have Mia as part of our team.”
Mia brings strong skills in operating machinery and adhering to safety protocols, and she is keen to expand her expertise into project supervision and mentoring.
Her personal goals include growing into a leadership role, training new staff, and advocating for more women to join the field.
General manager Adrian Butler said Mia was an outstanding addition to the operations team, demonstrating skill, initiative, and a fantastic attitude.
“Her aspirations to grow into leadership and mentor others reflect the calibre of talent we strive to foster here at Council,” Mr Butler said.
“We are committed to providing pathways for all our staff to develop, thrive, and contribute to their full potential, ensuring we deliver the best possible services to our communities.”
When asked if Mia would recommend working in local government to other females, her answer was a resounding "definitely”.
“It’s a great career with job security, personal growth, and a strong team culture,” Mia said.
“If you enjoy practical work and making a difference, this is the place to be.”
