Police spotted a stolen Nissan Pulsar on Yale Crt in North Shepparton about 8.30am Wednesday, sparking the chase that did not end until more than eight hours later.
The car was followed by police through Shepparton, Mooroopna, Echuca, Moama, Barmah, Nathalia and back to Shepparton before it ended with a chase on foot about 5pm.
The police helicopter located the car once it got to Nathalia and followed it from there, with residents in Shepparton hearing the low-flying helicopter for a couple of hours during the afternoon.
Several unsuccessful attempts were made to stop the vehicle in Shepparton and Mooroopna.
Police said the vehicle continued to allegedly drive erratically through Shepparton before it was dumped on McCracken St in Shepparton.
Police located and arrested two men and a woman following a short foot pursuit on Wilmot Rd.
Police Eastern Region Division 3 divisional commander Superintendent Brett Kahan said the arrests came after an alleged “crime spree” throughout Greater Shepparton towns starting a couple of days prior.
This involved the alleged theft of multiple vehicles and alleged break-ins at multiple homes in several different towns.
Police charged two men on Friday, July 11.
A 19-year-old Mooroopna man was charged with two counts of aggravated intentionally exposing police to risk by driving, reckless conduct endangering life, and two counts of theft of a vehicle.
He was also charged with driving while disqualified, refusing an oral fluid test, six counts of contravening bail conditions and committing an indictable offence while on bail.
He was remanded in custody to appear in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court in October.
A 20-year-old Shepparton man was charged with reckless conduct endangering serious injury, dangerous driving while pursued, seven counts of theft of a vehicle, aggravated burglary with a person present, and two counts of burglary.
He was also charged with 13 counts of obtaining property by deception, four counts of unlicensed driving, four counts of committing an indictable offence while on bail, and contravening bail conditions.
He was remanded in custody and will appear at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court in August.
An 18-year-old Shepparton woman was earlier charged with theft of a vehicle and drug-related offences.
She was bailed to appear in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on October 27.
