Titled Don’t Fence Me In, the exhibition features about 40 works capturing the Australian landscape in all its raw beauty, along with pieces painted during Raymond’s travels to Italy, the UK and the United States.
“I’ve really been enjoying it,” Mr Hill said.
“It’s my first big solo exhibition in a while, although I’ve had many over my career.
“This is a great venue — it’s allowed me to hang a lot of work and really show the range of what I’ve been doing.”
Known for his evocative plein air paintings, Mr Hill paints directly from life — often out in the bush — working quickly to preserve the colour, light and atmosphere of the scene in front of him.
The exhibition has been well received, attracting visitors from across the region and as far as Melbourne.
Sales have also been strong, with pieces available to take home immediately.
“People like that they can purchase a painting and walk out with it on the spot,” Mr Hill said.
The exhibition is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm, and Mr Hill is in attendance every Saturday from 10.30am to 2pm to meet with visitors and talk about his work.
Based at his gallery-studio in Kialla West, Mr Hill has also found a new passion in teaching.
He runsart classes every Friday, which have been gaining popularity with local students.
“All that enthusiasm runs off on other people,” he said.
“After six to 10 lessons, they can walk out and paint what they see.”
