The tanker was donated to the Rutherglen RSL Sub-Branch in 2011 and was recently repainted by members of the Victorian Military Vehicle Club.
The volunteers spent three days preparing the tanker, which included getting rid of rust, before painting in green, blue and brown colours.
“Club members come from far and wide to do this type of work and it’s greatly appreciated,” local past president David Martin said.
“I thank this small team of Army Reserve enthusiasts for coming here for what turned out to be a community effort.
“Rutherglen SES assisted, and Bunnings supplied the paint.
“Without the support of the volunteers, some work just doesn’t get done.”
Rutherglen RSL Sub-branch president Noel Hince described the result as “absolutely brilliant”.
“The preparation and painting work by this group has enhanced the Memorial Gardens,” Mr Hince said.
“It’s vastly improved the park; it’s become a talking point of the town.”
