Benalla Rural City Council will deliver a second dedicated dog park, thanks to recent funding received from the Victorian Government.
Mayor Bernie Hearn welcomed the funding announcement, highlighting the benefits the new park will bring to local residents and their pets.
"This project is an exciting opportunity to further improve public spaces within Benalla Rural City, and we’re proud to be able to offer our community an additional dog park,” Cr Hearn said.
“It is a wonderful way to provide more opportunities for the community to enjoy outdoor activities with their pets.”
The new dog park will be located on the western side of Benalla at Saleyards Rd and will be designed with a focus on ample space, high-quality amenities and safety.
The park will cater to dogs of all sizes, as well as facilities including water stations, waste disposal units, shaded seating for pet owners and secure fencing.
"This additional dog park will not only provide a safe environment for dogs to exercise and socialise, but also foster stronger community connections," Cr Hearn said.
"It’s a space where pet owners and families can gather, enjoy the outdoors and meet others in the community."
This project is supported by the Victorian Government through the ‘New and Upgraded Dog Parks’ program.
The announcement of this second dog park follows the successful opening of Benalla Rural City’s first off-leash dog park at Churchill Reserve in June 2023.
