A day of celebrations through the streets of Seymour is set to take place during NAIDOC Week.
Goranwarrabul House is inviting the town to the special event on Wednesday, July 9.
A smoking ceremony and Welcome To Country will kick off the day, with the community welcomed to arrive at Goranwarrabul House, on 6 Callen St, at 9.45am.
Attendees will then flock to Kings Park in a parade, and stop at the High St war memorial on the way for a wreath laying.
At the Green Shed in Kings Park, festivities will start, with free food and drink, live music, family activities, stalls, art for sale and raffles all on offer.
Priscilla Indichnavon, one of the event’s many facilitators, said the celebration was important to the First Nations community of Seymour and surrounding areas.
“The event brings First Nations together from all around the shire, who may not cross paths with each other ordinarily,” Ms Indichnavon said.
“We are a population that is regional-based and scattered in different towns around the shire, but having an event gives us a moment in the year to gather and celebrate, and recognise and be proud of our achievements.
“NAIDOC in Seymour also brings a combination of different stakeholders from the local community together, some who provide important direct support to First Nations people.
“But what is most important is the relationship that develops between us.”
The event is set to run all morning, concluding at 2pm.
