Seven days after snatching three points late on against Nunawading City, Goulburn Valley Suns were on the other side of the ledger at McEwen Reserve against Pascoe Vale on Saturday night.
Tom Barforosh’s 11th hour winner was more bayonet to the sternum than kick in the guts, as a win against Pascoe Vale could’ve elevated the Suns as high as fourth on the Victorian Premier League Two standings.

Saturday’s 2-1 defeat had Craig Carley’s side exit the finals bracket for the first time in a long while and, while it’s far from time to put the cue in the rack, the road to promotion now becomes a degree more difficult.
The game began with bottom-ranked Pascoe Vale, under new stewardship, playing above its ladder position with a testing first 20 minutes for the Suns.
Blows were traded by both sides, but the Rams delivered the first haymaker.
Around the half hour mark, a defensive mix up between the Suns’ centre halves saw the ball slipped through the gap to Nic Hatzigeorgiou, who found the back of the net with a composed strike.
Pascoe Vale gripped firmly on to the 1-0 lead until the break and was able to withstand the Suns for 20 minutes into the second stanza before the dam finally busted.
Surprise, surprise, it was a man with goals in his name to level the pegging.
A corner cleared away by Pascoe Vale was recycled back into the box and, after a Liam Kielty flick-on header, Callum Schorah popped up with the volleyed finish from close.
Tenacity then turned to tension as both sides sought to find the shock absorber, the strike to seal the deal.
Pascoe Vale found it first.
In a similar manner to the Suns’ goal, a cleared corner was redirected into the box, this time via a driven cross that bobbled through traffic and was allowed to meet an unmarked man on the six-yard line.
Unfortunately for the hosts, that man was league leading scorer Barforosh, who converted his 12th of the season and consigned the Suns to their eighth defeat of the season.
Games against fourth-ranked Springvale White Eagles and second-placed Brunswick Juventus loom and, if the Suns are to build a serious case for a spot in the VPL1 next season, both would be under the ‘must win’ category for Carley’s men.
