The duo will play their 15th State of Origin game together for the Maroons on Wednesday night, sending them beyond the Wally Lewis/Mark Murray pairing and the Johnathan Thurston/Cooper Cronk duo, both on 14.
Only Darren Lockyer and Thurston, with 18, have lined up in more Origin games in the halves for the Maroons.
Munster missed last year's series with hip and groin issues and is the talismanic figure the Maroons look to who can win a game with his own unique brand of magic.
Dazzling, unpredictable and brilliant all at once, Munster is the maestro of spontaneity, yet capable of greatness in the big moments.
Cherry-Evans is the stoic leader, more composed and calculating. He too knows how to conjure the big plays, but does so with a head that always appears more steady than his mercurial partner.
The 36-year-old Maroons skipper is just glad to have the man they call "Munny" alongside him again at Suncorp Stadium.
"It's really good to have him back. He's someone that I really enjoy hanging out with in camp, and then running out there he is someone that gives me a lot of confidence," Cherry-Evans said.
"I'm sure there are a lot of boys in this camp that are really happy to see Cameron Munster, but we are going to have to put up with him leading up to it, which is sometimes punishing.
"But it's all worth it on the Wednesday night when he plays like he plays."
Munster is in the best physical and mental condition of his 18-game Origin career after cutting right back on drinking and adopting a new diet on advice from former NSW star Anthony Minichiello.
"He's playing great footy and he looks (in tip-top shape) and sounds it," Cherry-Evans said.
"There's a lot to be said about that, so I am really excited to have Cam back in the halves and I love playing alongside him. He has become a good friend over the years and it's great to see him in such a good head space."
The duo have won three of the past four series they have played together and are now in the echelon of the great pairings of the 1980s and the Maroons dynasty of 2006-17 that won 11 of 12 series.
They have also gone beyond, in a "games together" sense, the famous Lewis and Allan Langer duo that won four series in their memorable 13-game liaison from 1987-91.
Munster is approaching the road ahead with optimism.
"I want to give it everything I've got. To win another series would be nice," he said.
"I'd like these young blokes to have the opportunity to win a series and have some great memories with them. I am looking forward to it.
"It would be nice to have a similar year to 2020, but all I can do is work hard and do the little things for the team. If the big moments come, hopefully I can deliver."
