One of the Goulburn Valley’s most beloved automotive pastimes is returning for another lap around the track in 2025.
The 48th Historic Winton will be held this weekend across May 24-25 at Winton Motor Raceway near Benalla.
Saturday and Sunday are set to be jam-packed with 36 races of wheel-to-wheel action in classic cars made from the roaring 1920s through to the swinging 1960s and ending in the disco days of the 1980s.
New regulations mean there will be no motorbike races for the first time in the event’s 49-year history.
Event chair John Kessner said spectators would enjoy seeing cars from when automotive design was arguably at its most free-willed and creative best.
“Younger spectators will be surprised by the power of some of these older cars,” Kessner said.
“This, along with paddocks full of vehicles on display, visits to the competition paddock to see the race cars up close, parades of specially selected vehicles and the automotive market, will give families loads to do.
“We know that thousands of dedicated historic motoring enthusiasts will pile into Winton Motor Raceway over the weekend.
“So much is happening at Historic Winton that there is a ‘hail and ride’ courtesy bus transporting visitors around the track.”
Gates open at 9am Saturday, while lights out for the first race on Sunday will be at 8.45am.
The Shannons Car Park will feature heritage vehicle displays with clubs presenting their most eye-catching cars, trucks and wooden boats.
On Friday, the Benalla Historic Vehicle Tour will take place with participants meeting at the Benalla Gliding Club at 8am.
