Education Week has always been an important event for the Orrvale Community, where students have extended invitations to grandparents, parents and special visitors, inviting them to attend the school and participate in activities.
This provides an opportunity for students to showcase to the visitors their learning, while explaining how education has developed at Orrvale throughout the years.
It allows students to develop their communication skills, through working with their special visitors in different activities and sharing about their cultures.
The students will also be able to build on their leadership skills, while employing their learning of emotional intelligence skills through the RULER Program.
This year’s Education Week will build on the school’s Harmony Day celebration, which took place earlier this year.
Principal Adam Brennan said it was important to celebrate all the cultures within their community.
“Each year, the school highlights student backgrounds through the activities chosen,” he said.
“This allows students to connect and share about their individual cultures and celebrate one another.”
A highlight of Education Week at Orrvale Primary School, is looking back at the history and development of Shepparton.
“Families will work together to complete quizzes, sharing experiences about their schooling days and how things have changed,” Mr Brennan said.
“There will also be activities focusing on the integration of learning about culture with STEAM.
“The understanding and skills learnt throughout the activities provide students with values and skills which they can then apply to their future.”
Orrvale Primary School will hold its grandparents, parents and special visitor day on Thursday, May 15.
