Amber Community offers free counselling to anyone who needs it after a crash.
Some of its clients include drivers and passengers involved in the crash, bereaved families, those who were injured and their caregivers, and friends and colleagues.
Counselling is also available to those who were first on the scene, witnesses, people who offered assistance and emergency services personnel.
Amber Community Hume regional co-ordinator Carmel Maher said the counselling was available to anyone whether they were at fault or not.
“It doesn’t matter if the incident was years ago or last week, and regardless of who was at fault, as we know that road trauma doesn’t discriminate,” she said.
“We are there to assist, and our dedicated counsellors are experienced in helping individuals navigate the complex emotions, thoughts, and behaviours associated with road trauma.”
The counselling sessions can be conducted face-to-face in Mitcham in Melbourne, online, or on the telephone, and a referral is not needed to access the services.
Ms Maher said not everyone wanted counselling, or felt ready for it, so there were also many resources and support groups available on the Amber Community website at ambercommunity.org.au/counselling-and-support
