Building height changes in the Corowa Howlong Mulwala Flood Study, particularly in Mulwala, was the topic most raised at last Thursday’s Future Federation, drop-in information session in Mulwala, with more sessions planned for Howlong and Urana.
One young couple spoke to council’s planning director Susan Appleyard for half-an-hour, concerned about massive hikes in insurance premiums and costs incurred in implementing changes after council adopted the flood study.
Increased communication and information about the flood study and other matters including rates, especially the proposed special rate variation, was also sought by residents.
Council has advertised for tenders and will shortly announce the successful tenderer to undertake a Flood Risk Management Plan, which will guide the next steps.
Ms Appleyard encouraged people to stay engaged for the next part of the project.
Access to footpaths, footpath upgrades and maintenance, re-installation of permanent works crew in Mulwala and more designated car parking at Mulwala Public School were requested by residents.
The Mulwala Pioneer Museum, with demolition of the building likely, is causing distress to many in the Mulwala and Yarrawonga communities and was also raised last Thursday.
“Monthly meetings are being held with the committee,” Ms Appleyard said.
