Venezia have beaten Fiorentina 2-1 to take a giant step towards securing their Serie A status for another year, compounding La Viola's agony after their UEFA Conference League semi-final loss to Real Betis last week.
Combined with Roma's defeat to Atalanta Juventus' prospects of Champions League football next season have been greatly enhanced while Fiorentina are now ninth, three places and four points outside any European spot.Â
Venezia's win lifted them out of the relegation zone and into fourth-from-last place. The bottom three go down.
Fali Cande on the hour mark and Gaetano Oristanio eight minutes later put Venezia in the driving seat at Stadio Pierluigi Penzo. Rolando Mandragora pulled a goal back for the visitors with 13 minutes remaining.
However, after visiting Cagliari Venezia are at home to Juventus who will be virtually certain of Champions League football if they win their last two games.
