Supported by a funding initiative from Charles Sturt University’s Three Rivers Department of Rural Health, Navorina Aged Care created the intergenerational meeting area and a functional mobility garden designed to benefit both residents and rural health students.
The new spaces are intended to support clinical learning, enhance communication skills, and encourage social interaction between students and residents.
It was officially opened on Monday afternoon.
Navorina CEO Melissa Bromley described how special the new outdoor space is.
“This spectacular, welcoming and inclusive outdoor space includes a beautiful Indigenous mural - called ‘A Home to Many’- weaving the story of our home of Deniliquin, traditional homelands of the Wamba Wamba Perrepa Perrepa people, and the diverse culture of our community today.
“Navorina Nursing Home extends their sincerest gratitude to Three Rivers for facilitating this from concept to opening, and we look forward to witnessing the joy this space will bring through the seasons.”
The opening event included an afternoon tea attended by residents and representatives of the community, and a cake cutting led by Ms Bromley and Three Rivers staff Christine Howard, Elyce Green and Cassandra Biggs.
Navorina has also announced the installation of a new allied health chair, which will be available for use by visiting health professionals.
Three Rivers’ Deniliquin-based clinical educator and lecturer in rural health Cassandra Biggs said the developments will bring “meaningful improvements” to the lives of residents and expand valuable learning opportunities for students.
The project’s capital works funding has enabled Navorina to enhance their facilities while supporting the next generation of rural health professionals and the future of bringing students and residents together.
