In a ‘campaign reflection’ statement issued on Monday morning, Mr Hyde indicated Farrer candidates would be expecting more from her this term.
Mr Hyde also took the opportunity to thank his supporters, congratulate his fellow Farrer candidates and praise his party’s win nationally.
The statement also confirmed this election was his last tilt at entering politics in Canberra.
“To Sussan I send my warmest congratulations with the hope that she will do more for our electorate than ever before,” he said.
“I also congratulate Michelle Millthorpe - whose courage after the loss of her father during the campaign is something I salute and greatly respect - and all the other candidates who stood up for their respective parties at this election.
“It takes courage and commitment to run in a stronghold like this one and to expose your life and career to a media group who don’t always treat us with the sensitivity others receive; so far has the standing of the political profession dropped in a single generation.
“Congratulations to our Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, our fantastic candidates and returning parliamentarians, and the team who engineered and steered this fantastic national victory.
“I look forward to watching as the next parliament forms and performs for all Australians.”
Mr Hyde said rather than standing for election in the future, he would provide support to others who wish to do so.
“The time has come for me to step back and start mentoring the next generation to serve and represent us under the proud Labor flag I love, and have been honoured to be a member of.
“And that starts by continuing to promote the camaraderie built up on polling booths here in Farrer with all the other vollies (campaign volunteers).
“We got to know a little about each other and have some fun along the way in a respectful and cordial atmosphere I haven’t experienced anywhere else.
“That is the unique nature of this electorate that I hope we preserve for many years to come.”
