GVW operates 26 farms at wastewater management facilities across the region, committed to sustainable land and water management practices.
These farms support agriculture by reusing treated wastewater and biosolids, promoting efficient resource use for the benefit of the community, farmers and the environment.
The GVW farm team is at the heart of this mission and is proud to offer a wide range of career opportunities in fields like farming, irrigation and environmental sustainability.
Among those is farm operator Kaitlyn Clapp, who joined GVW in 2021, with her passion for animals and agriculture at the core of her work.
In her role, Kaitlyn is responsible for overseeing livestock care, ensuring they have adequate food, water and shelter.
She also plays an integral part in seasonal activities such as lambing and lamb marking.
Before joining GVW, Kaitlyn worked in administration and completed her Certificate III in Business, but ultimately her desire to work with animals led her to make a career shift, starting as a farm trainee.
Through opportunities at GVW, Kaitlyn was able to combine her skills and passion for agriculture and complete her Certificate III in Agriculture, and progress to her current position as a farm operator.
Looking to the future, Kaitlyn hopes to continue growing her career at GVW, with aspirations of pursuing a Diploma in Agriculture in the next five years.
Reflecting on the journey, Kaitlyn offers advice to anyone considering a career in the industry.
“Just give it a go. I was nervous starting a new job, and being the only girl in my team, but I’ve learned so many new skills and have thoroughly enjoyed it,” she said.
Students attending the Careers Day Out are encouraged to visit the GVW stand and meet passionate staff like Kaitlyn to learn more about the range of job opportunities available.
