PDFL: round 18 wrap

The Picola District Football League's playoff bracket is set after all the big names held serve on the final day of the regular season.

Waaia, Strathmerton, Berrigan and Katamatite all won well in round 18, securing top four finishes in the process, but with the league's five-week finals system will take a break this weekend.

Instead, teams in the bottom half of the eight will take centre stage, with Rennie to battle Mathoura and the Deniliquin Rovers to tackle Picola United.

The Hoppers slumped to a second consecutive defeat, falling to Strathmerton by 18 points as the Bulldogs got that winning feeling back.

The Dogs had amassed a 20-point lead at half-time and their defence proved vital throughout the game, only allowing one goal in each quarter of an 18-point triumph.

Zack Betson kicked three goals to lead the way, while Zack Smith, Craig Ednie and Cam Sudholz impressed for the Hoppers.

After the week off, the Bulldogs will take on Berrigan in a qualifying final with the winner headed for the preliminary final.

The Saints eased to another big win, this time taking care of Picola United by 63 points, with seven goals in the second quarter and six in the last showing how powerful they can be.

Ruck Adam Way once again turned it on to be named best-on-ground, while Lee Schmidt, Will Robinson and Ted Walliss (four goals) were all quality.

For United, Tom Hislop slotted another two goals with Blake Jorgensen and Corey Cogan remaining in great form.

Next weekend's opponent Deniliquin tonned up against Yarroweyah, winning by 101 points for a sixth consecutive win.

Josh Flight and Ricki Waters kicked five goals each with Terry Lumbar contributing four, Brendan Hope, Ray Murphy and Andrew May all strong.

Corey Percy, Tim Atkins and Marcus Hill were best for the Hoppers, who ended the season ninth, one win and 18 per cent back from eighth.

Katamatite warmed up for finals with a comprehensive display, keeping Blighty to just a single goal in a 73-point drubbing.

The Redeyes goalled early and would not celebrate one again, as the Tigers took control and raced away, and 11.19 return the only thing preventing a triple-figure win.

Sam Poole starred with four goals while Nichol Clurey, Trent Steers and Harris Dickason were all important, with the Tigers getting ready to tackle Waaia in a fortnight's time in what shapes as the game of the season.

The Bombers completed a near-perfect regular season with an easy win against Tocumwal, kicking 36 goals in a 220-point triumph.

Ten goals to none in the first quarter set the tone as two Bombers hit double figures for the day, with Charlie Burrows and Mark Meyland kicking 11 and 10 respectively.

The Bombers end the season having lost just once, while the Bloods end it without a single victory.
