A man has been charged with the sexual assault of a woman in Sydney's inner west in 2012 and with assaulting two other women with a cattle prod in 2016.

NSW Police say in April this year officers received reports of the alleged sexual assault and detectives established Strike Force Dorty to investigate.

A 46-year-old man was arrested in Newtown on Friday and charged with aggravated indecent assault – victim under authority (DV), sexual intercourse without consent (DV), and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Police allege the man sexually assaulted a woman, then aged 35, between June and September 2012 in Annandale.

It's further alleged he assaulted two other women, then aged 45 and 29, with a cattle prod in Leichhardt in 2016.

The Erskineville man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.
