Pine Lodge captain Travis Waters has claimed man-of-the-match honours after his strong bowling performance in the Cricket Shepparton B-grade one-day final against Central Park-St Brendan’s.
Waters opened the bowling for the Lodgers and was effective immediately, taking a wicket in his first and second overs.
This hot start from Waters was crucial for the Lodgers as it helped them gain control of the contest early, but following the match Waters was humble after receiving his accolade.
“It could have gone to about five or six blokes to be honest, I wasn’t really suspecting it,” he said.
“I thought Hayden (Cann) early or a couple of other blokes, but it is what it is. I’ll take it.”
While Waters said the club would enjoy the grand final victory, he did mention how the Lodgers had one eye focused on getting a side into the A-grade competition.
“It’s massive for us,” he said.
“Obviously, we are on the journey to get to A-grade at some stage in the near future.
“To play off in a B-grade grand final is huge for us. Obviously, our next step is to go to A-grade and this will hopefully bring us closer to that.”
Waters has taken 16 wickets for Pine Lodge this season.
