With other round 10 results falling the way of the Bombers, Kyabram’s 9.11 (65) to 12.10 (82) victory has secured a spot back in the top six after falling out of finals calculations last week.
But it didn’t come without a fight.
An even contest throughout, the game’s biggest lead up until three-quarter-time was nine points, as Benalla and Kyabram exchanged blows at the Showgrounds.
Saint Michael Mummery wielded his weaponry via foot, kicking three goals across the match, while Bomber Charlie Isaac also had three majors to three-quarter-time.
After no side could pull away with momentum, the scoreboard at the final change of ends rightfully reflected the contest so far - all squared up at 61-apiece.
Then, Kyabram found an edge.
Restricting Benalla to a goalless final term, conceding four behinds, the Bombers launched a 21-point term of its own - the equal-highest it had scored across a quarter for the match - to record a 17-point win.
Kyabram’s Kaine Herbert showed his class yet again and was named best afield, while Charlie Barnett’s three majors were also critical towards the triumphant result.
David Mennen, Cooper Gracie, and Mark Marriott were Benalla’s best for the match.
The win moves Kyabram into sixth by percentage, sharing a 5-5 record with Shepparton United, while Benalla sits a game apart of both its neighbouring ladder opposition with a 3-7 record in tenth.
Benalla face ninth-placed Mooroopna in round 11, while Kyabram travel to Kings Park to face third-placed Seymour.
