Graduate paramedics at Yarrawonga

New graduate paramedics on the job at Yarrawonga Ambulance Branch, Riane Dickins and Brandon Nation.

Two well regarded graduate paramedics have settled in well to their new environment at the Yarrawonga Ambulance Branch.

Riane Dickens commenced at Yarrawonga in August and beforehand, spent three years with the Royal Flying Doctor Service as an ambulance attendant.

“I loved it, flying all over Victoria mainly, getting out and about, talking and helping people all the time. You can learn something from everyone. It’s great to keep learning,” she told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.

Her new surrounds appeal to her, whether she’s playing pickleball in Rutherglen, out walking in Yarrawonga with people saying hello, or at work. “Yarrawonga is great, so nice with the lake and lifestyle. People have been so welcoming,” the former St Kilda resident said.

Riana, who turned 36-years-of age on 12/12, graduated as a paramedic from Victoria University in 2021.

After five years nursing in private hospitals in Melbourne, Brandon Nation is enjoying his transition to paramedic at Yarrawonga.

The 27-year-old, who started at Yarrawonga in September, likes everything about his new environment.

“I’m loving it, getting experience in a different workplace and out in the public,” Brandon said.

“Everyone here is really friendly and been welcoming – a very supportive atmosphere.

“After being in Melbourne Yarrawonga is different and very refreshing.”

Originally from Cann River, Nathan graduated from Federation University Ballarat last December and enjoys keeping in touch with his graduate mates, particularly in Shepparton and Numurkah.

Acting Team Manager at Yarrawonga, Alex Mc Vicar, welcomed Riane and Brandon to the team which now has a total of 27 staff for the existing three shifts.

“We’ve been very fortunate overall with the level of graduates, and Riane and Nathan don’t fall short of that quality of graduates,” he said.

“It has been an effortless time in settling into Yarrawonga for both.”
