Queensland is facing isolated showers and possible severe thunderstorms over most of the state on Saturday, with between 5 and 25mm of rainfall expected in most places.
Severe heatwave conditions are expected to impact the north and northeast, with above average maximum temperatures in eastern districts.
Further rainfall is also expected across already saturated parts of the south east, which have already seen between 200 and 300mm of rain since Wednesday.
Several regional Victorian communities are at risk of being cut off by rising floodwaters.
BOM senior meteorologist Angus Hines said the amount of rain would not be as great as what was seen earlier in the week.
"The intensity has come down a little bit but some further wet weather falling onto the saturated landscape, the swollen flooded rivers, (is) likely to prolong the flood impacts across southeastern Australia," he said.
Most of the rain will fall in the area between Sydney and Melbourne, with the majority in the border region.
Rain is expected to continue into Sunday, with the far eastern Gippsland region of Victoria tipped to receive potentially more than 100mm across the weekend.
"It's a lot more rainfall to go before things will dry up," Mr Hines said.
The SES has received more than 900 requests for assistance statewide since the beginning on the storm and rain event on Wednesday.
