Echuca Bowls Club
Last Saturday, the Men’s and Ladies Breakfast Fours were conducted, with 16 ladies and 14 men’s teams competing under 100-up scoring.

After three games of 10 ends, only two teams won all games in the Men’s section with Jim Ferrier, Ivan Hicks, Robert Taylor and Eddie Blampied on 170 points taking home the prize money from Max Bennett, Paul Leach, Frank Gumbleton and Cec Moss on 165 points.
In the Ladies section, three teams won their three games. The winners were Tanya Kesson, Joan Moss, Cheryl Campion and Pat McMeeken on 174 points.
They won from Jenny Major, Kaye Barker, Yvonne Smolenaars and Di Milgate (171 points), who placed there on a countback from Bernie Johns, Marie Malone, Joan Dovaston and Ros Neil, also on 171 points.
On Sunday, Echuca hosted Cohuna Golf for a full-scale practice match, won overall by Echuca in a great contest.
Club events entries close on Saturday next, so if you wish to compete make sure your entry is in by then.
The next tournament is an Open 2x4x2 Triples set down for Friday, October 6, sponsored by Tobin Brothers and Echuca Podiatry. Lead plays two bowls, third plays four and skip plays two bowls.

Twenty pairs played and most struggled in the rain, with the exception of the winners who also took out the jackpot.

Opening Day
Sixty players enjoyed lunch in the bistro followed by Two Bowl Triples.
Max Griffiths sent down the kitty and Marg Griffiths the first bowl. Ages ranged from a cute baby practising her skills with the kitty and John Hewlett assisting with raffles.
There was also a modelling of the new uniform.

Coaching each Friday at 2pm, open to beginners and regular bowlers wishing to refine their skills.
Ladies Social Bowls is on Thursday at 9.30am for a 10am start, Wednesday is the Men’s Jackpot Pairs, and Mixed Social Bowls is on Saturday at 12.30pm.
All bowlers and friends are most welcome. For entry, phone the bowls office on 5481 3390 on the day of play and leave a message, or place a name on the appropriate sheet on the noticeboard at the front of the clubhouse.
Mixed Social Day is on Friday, September 29 with a 1pm start. Come dressed in footy colours.
The first and second rounds of the Club Mixed Pairs will take place on Friday, October 6. Entries close on September 28.
Ladies Day, or ‘Giggles on the Green’, is on Thursday, October 5 and is free.
All are welcome and no experience is necessary. Coaching is provided and prizes and raffles will be a part of the day.

Twenty-three players played three games of nine ends.
The winners on 46 points were Val Gaylor (skip), Sue Underwood (3rd), Paula Barkham (2nd) and Pam Ker (lead).
Runners-up with 34 points were Neil Hardy (skip), Julie Van-Lee (3rd) and Bev Healey (2nd).
Third prize with 31 points went to Carol Glass, Ric Panozzo and Carol O’Callaghan.

Rochester Bowls Club
The sowing of the B Green will be done in the third week of October.
A three-week under-18 youth barefoot bowls begins on Wednesday, October 11.
It will run from 4pm to 5pm for three consecutive weeks.
Funded by Campaspe Shire Council, the program will focus on skills and having fun.
Novelty games with prizes. Learn to bowl with local bowling experts.

60+ over results from Echuca on Wednesday, September 20
Kelvin Stout’s Locky team was the only three-game winner and got the dead chooks.
Two teams with two wins and a draw played off for runner-up.
Boofa’s gun team without John Weeks from last week, but Old Faithful Don Gillies now in, managed a much better result than last week, getting three bowls in the yardstick, but was outdone by another Locky team, with Neil Haines and his mates getting four and the other four dead chooks.

Lockington Bowls Club
The club held a successful memorial two-bowl triples tournament on Sunday, September 17, attracting 84 bowlers representing several local clubs, including Cohuna Golf, Deniliquin, Echuca, Kyabram, Mathoura, Moama, Rich River, Rochester, Stanhope, Woodbury and Lockington members.
Club president Neil Haines welcomed all bowlers and provided a listing of all members who had passed away during the past 12 months, including their respective contributions to our club.
The bowlers enjoyed a wonderful day of sunshine and true-running 16-second greens as they battled to obtain the ideal result on the day.
After the three games of 10 ends were completed there were five undefeated teams to compete for the major prizes.
Based on a points system and shots up, the winning team hailed from Cohuna Golf Bowling Club, comprising Jason Heard, “Bluey” Fletcher and Mick Carmody (s) scoring 83 points to take home the title. In second place was the Wes McCumber trio from Woodbury Bowling Club with a total of 81 points.
Next in line was the Stanhope team skipped by Barry Williams on 78 points plus 22 shots ahead of Bruce O’Neale (Rich River) on 78 points +20 shots.
The final three-game winner was the Shane Laing team from Deniliquin with a tally of 76 points.
The best-performed local trio included John Andrea, Poss Andrea and Anthony Westwood (s) with two wins and a draw. The special competition winners were Natalie McLaughlin (super meat tray), John Whiteside, Gayle Kerr (Mathoura), Graham Turner, Steve Pavone, Lisa Humphries (Echuca) and Graham Nisbet (Deniliquin).
The club thanked Pauline Humbert for organising the prizes and running the competition.
Barry Williams thanked the lady president, Denise Gilmore, and her hard-working committee for a glorious afternoon tea.
Tournament secretary Chris Stewart thanked Russell Shawcross, Brian Kinnane, Ray Hanson for their efforts in filling the greens for the day.
The greens staff, Les Brereton and Lloyd Buchanan, were acknowledged for preparing the perfect playing surface while club president Neil Haines also received accolades for his contribution during the week after returning home from an interstate trip.
The bar staff received hearty applause for providing excellent service during the event.
On Saturday, September 16, at the scrounge competition, bowlers played rinks under the pennant rules — 21 ends straight through — which resulted in some impressive form from all bowlers.
The standout skipper was Leanne McInnes scoring a 25-11 against Phillip Cunnington. Dave Thomas skipped well for a win while the remaining rink went to Ray Hanson.
The 60-and-over competition has started at the Kyabram Bowling Club.
Our local hopes fell just short of the “chooks”, but welcomed the return of the competition.
On Tuesday the women played rinks, with the winning team comprising Katthi Maddison, Lorraine Appleby, Margaret Dowie and Denise Gilmore (s) in a brilliant all-round performance.
The previous week, the winning triples team included Margaret Dowie, Pauline Humbert and Denise Gilmore (s). The women will play on Tuesday mornings until the midweek pennant commences, then play their social bowls on a Friday.
On Saturday, 24 members graced the green to play rinks.
The results on the day saw the star-studded four of Terrill Westwood, Shane Felmingham, John Fisher, Leanne McInnes (s) defeat the rink of Mary Thomas, Gerry Polman, Jenny Fisher, Peter Egan (s) 15-7. The other match saw Cindy Felmingham, Alan Kauffman, John Andrea, Neil Haines (s) beat the rink of Natalie McLaughlin, Anthony Westwood, Jimmy Duff, Dave Thomas (s) 20-6.
On Sunday, there was perfect weather for the practice match, with the club hosting a visit from the Gunbower Bowling Club.
All bowlers enjoyed the conditions and the bowling was a treat to watch. Results on the day favoured Lockington, scoring a 47-41 victory with two rinks up. (A. Harris d. J.D. Pearson 17-9; P. Cunnington d. Bill L’Huillier 18-13; L. McInnes lost to J. Hogan 12-19). A superb afternoon tea was taken after the match.
On Wednesday, the 60-and-over competition was held at the Echuca Bowling Club.
At the completion of the day’s play, two Lockington teams scooped the pool, winning all chooks on offer. The winning team comprised Bruce Haines (Echuca), Geoff Shawcross, Kalvin Stout, Owen McPhee (s). They were the only three-game winners.
The second-placed rink was John Andrea, Frank Chugg, Les Brereton, Neil Haines (s) with two wins and a draw.
Local talent Kim Ray and Jenny Fisher played the all-star classic pairs at the Bendigo Bowling Club last weekend.
The results were a mixed bag — two wins, three losses and a draw.
This Friday the club is inviting bowlers to a fun-filled AFL Grand Final eve bowls and pastry feast.
Roll up at 11am followed by a game of bowls then a feast of pies, pasties, sausage rolls etc.
All are welcome.
On Wednesday, October 4, the ladies are holding a three-bowl triples tournament sponsored by Nichol Trading, Rochester. Play commences at 10am.
