Floods inquiry reaches Greater Shepparton

Greater Shepparton residents can watch a hearing of the state parliamentary inquiry into the 2022 flood event when the committee visits the city this week.

The Legislative Council Environment and Planning Committee is conducting the inquiry and has already held hearings in Rochester and Echuca.

State Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell, who is a committee member, is urging residents to attend the hearing on Wednesday, September 13, at the Sir Ian McLennan Centre in Mooroopna.

Ms Lovell said it is vital the committee hold a hearing in Greater Shepparton to hear from community members on how the flood emergency was handled, including what worked well, what could have been done better and the impact the flood is still having on the region.

The hearing will be held between 10am and 5pm.

Representatives from the following organisations are scheduled to give evidence to the committee:

10am – Greater Shepparton City Council
11.30am – Committee for Greater Shepparton
12.30pm – Murray Darling Association
2pm – Undera Flood Group
2.45pm – Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre
3.30pm – Ethnic Communities Council of Shepparton and District / Neighbourhood Collective Australia
4.15pm – Shepparton Search and Rescue Squad
