Watene-Zelezniak has been one of the many success stories in Andrew Webster's maiden season at the Warriors in which the club is poised to finish in the top four for the first time since 2007.
Fans have flocked to games in Auckland sporting replica Watene-Zelezniak wigs and with just two matches of the regular season remaining - starting with Friday's clash with St George Illawarra - the winger can write himself into Warriors history.
The Kiwi international has 21 tries for the year but will be aiming to beat the record haul of 23 Warriors tries in a season shared by Francis Meli (2003) and David Fusitu'a (2018).
With the lowly Dragons and the Dolphins over the next fortnight, Campion is backing Watene-Zelezniak to surpass Fusitu'a and his former teammate Meli.
"It's not only his attack, his defence is so important and he brings a lot of energy to the team," Campion told AAP.
"Some of the tries he's scoring have been unbelievable.
"If this record was broken and we didn't make the eight, I could understand Francis being a bit angry.
"I loved playing with Francis because he was big, strong and he could read defence really well.
"But he would be really pleased for Dallin, the boys are sitting in the top four and everybody would congratulate him if he does break it."
The hype around the Warriors is infectious and on Thursday the club's major sponsor - telecommunications provider OneNZ - changed the signal section on customers phones to read "Up The Wahs".
Under Webster, the Warriors are going close to matching 2002's record of 17 wins - they have 15 so far - across the regular season.
"He's done a terrific job in 12 months and I have to take my hat off to him," said Campion, who starred in the 2002 side which reached the grand final.
"He's very positive all the time and the players want to play for the coach.
"Webby's taken a leaf out of Ivan Cleary's book, they're both so calm and collected and that's why the players love him."
