Sheep Expo postponed

With Boonoke’s 2022 Ram of the Year are Errol Horneman from Elders, Poll Boonoke sheep classer Tom Lilburne, Clyde McKenzie from Elders, Australian Food and Agriculture Company general manager Justin Campbell, judge Russell Jones and Annie Romanin from Apiam.

The annual Elders Riverina Sheep Expo has been cancelled for 2023.

The cancellation comes after the event’s organisers - Elders Deniliquin - decided to make improvements to the expo's format.

In an effort to revamp the event, members of the Elders wool team are working towards developing a sheep expo that “appeals to a wider audience and attracts increased interest in the industry”.

The team is also working on expanding the overall size of the expo, wanting to offer more to its target audience.

Waiting until next year’s event to implement the improvements gives them time to fine-tune each aspect of the expo, and ensure that all changes are implemented seamlessly.

Elders promises a “bigger and better” expo in 2024, but has not yet locked in a date.

The Elders Riverina Sheep Expo was established to replace the Riverina Field Days, which were abandoned during the millennium drought.

The event has traditionally crowed a Riverina Merino Ram and Ewe of the Year, Riverina Performance Ram and Ewe of the Year, and included the announcement of the Northern Clip of the Year.

Studs have attended from all over, with static displays, trade stalls, shearing competitions and even wool fashion shows also part of the fun in previous years.
