The Lady Gators narrowly bowed out to the Wodonga Lady Wolves 81-75.
Missing key components Marnie Sharp and Briarna Moon, Britten was left to do the heavy lifting for the Gators, drilling 11 two-pointers, six free throws and four from downtown.
However, the Wolves drove home in the final quarter to sit undefeated at the top of the ladder, despite the monster game from the Newberry College starlet.
Coming off the back of a win-loss opening double header round, the Lady Gators began brightly against a Wolves outfit who arrived at Shepparton Sports Stadium with two wins from the opening weekend.
Shooting ahead to a lead at the end of the opening term, contributions from Britten and Jordyn Commadeur had the seven up.
But waves of pressure from the Wolves would have the side sneak past the Gators on the scoreboard midway through the second stanza, and from there the Gators would fail to regain the lead.
Clinical shooting from the line as well as inside the paint from Wodonga’s Melanie Kirby kept the Wolves afloat until the early stages of the final quarter, until a booming two-pointer from Commadeur drew the home side level at 68-all.
However, a terrorising last few minutes from Wodonga's Breanna Green drew costly fouls from the Gator defence, while a clutch three-pointer from teammate Charlotte Beavan proved to be too much ground for the hosts to make up as it languished in the final minutes to finish up short at the siren.
Although suffering two losses from their opening three contests, the Gators have showed promising signs and will look to bounce back with a second win this weekend on the road against Wangaratta Lady Warriors on Sunday.
