Bulldogs veteran Josh Reynolds retires from the NRL

Canterbury fan favourite Josh Reynolds has announced his retirement from the NRL after making a fairytale return to the NRL with the Bulldogs this season.

The 33-year-old broke the news to his teammates at training on Monday and will play his last game in the NSW Cup at Belmore Oval this weekend.

Reynolds played in the Bulldogs' 2012 and 2014 grand final sides before leaving the club at the end of 2017 to join Wests Tigers and later England's Hull FC.

He had considered retirement before returning to Canterbury on a train-and-trial deal ahead of the 2023 season, eventually finding himself upgraded to the top 30 squad.

The arrival of fellow playmaker Toby Sexton from Gold Coast earlier this month left Reynolds to step down from the top 30 squad after seven first-grade appearances on his comeback.

Reynolds played the last of his 145 Bulldogs games in the round-11 loss to the Warriors.

In honour of the outgoing five-eighth, the club will rename the hill at Belmore Sportsground theÂ 'Josh Reynolds Hill' for this weekend's clash against Brisbane, having made the same change for his farewell game in 2017.

Reynolds will front the media to discuss his retirement on Monday afternoon.
