The Push-Up Challenge is an event that encourages participants to do an equal number of push-ups to those we lost to suicide in Australia.

One local has taken on the challenge, run by the Push For Better Foundation, for her third year.

The goal is to raise awareness of suicide and the number of people suffering with mental illness.

Euroa resident Hannah Tuckett first participated in the challenge in 2021, the year her younger brother Sam took his own life, and has since raised over $12,000.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to participate and also for everyone who has supported me by donating and encouraging me,” Ms Tuckett said.

She started this year’s challenge with a goal of raising $2000, and has ended the challenge with a total of $2660.

The participants’ goal this year was to complete 3144 push-ups in honour of the 3144 people lost to suicide in Australia in 2021.

Ms Tuckett participated in this challenge in a team of 12, including Travis Hausler and team captain Daniel Godsmark.

She dedicated her Facebook account to sharing her progress, and on day 12 began sharing the stories and memories that others had of Sam.

Each day, Ms Tuckett would dedicate her day’s efforts to someone who knew Sam and who loved him, and shared a story they had of Sam.

Ms Tuckett was “blown away” by the support she received and remains grateful to the people who have been there from day one to day 23.

“The support really motivated me,” Ms Tuckett said.

“Everyone has been amazing, I’m just so grateful.”

Over three years of participation, Ms Tuckett has completed 9601 push-ups and raised more than $12,000 for LifeLine.
