Mick Stewart from Bundalong is just one motorbike enthusiast who will be attending, with the 2020 event being his fourth year.
Mick has continued to attend due to his interest in bikes and the variety that are on display as well as the venue, which he described as ‘perfect’ and the social aspect.
This year he will be bringing his 2003 Harley Davidson after his 2009 Suzuki GSX 1400 made an appearance last year. Recently he shared a part of his interesting story involving motorbikes to the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
“I have been riding since I was 5 years old,” Mick said.
“I fell in love with bikes as a child when we were visiting my father’s mate in Warracknabeal.
“His mate had an old broken bike sitting in his garage which I found; from there he said if I could fix it, I could have it.
“Low and behold I fixed it and have been in love with bikes ever since.”
Mick hasn’t just ridden bikes as a hobby, he has competed in a number of events and has been a mechanic by trade for 42 years.
“I raced in Motocross from 1975 – 1978 but primarily raced superbikes over a 14-year span from 1978 – 1992,” Mick said.
“I also worked in the industry in the ‘80s.”
In the mid-1980s Mick raced at the Bathurst Arai 500, one of the biggest races in Australia at the time as well as Phillip Island, along the Eastern Coast of Australia and in the Castrol 6 hour and 8 hours on numerous occasions.
“I mainly raced in Victoria and New South Wales, but I also competed in a number of races in South Australia and Tasmania as well as some international races,” he said.
“I came away with a few trophies and am now a privateer.
“I’m hoping to get back into racing again next year in the Phillip Island classic, but we will wait and see how we go there.”
