Adelaide forward Shane McAdam will front the AFL Tribunal in an early season flashpoint for the league's match review system.

McAdam faces at least a three-match ban for his hit which floored GWS' Jacob Wehr, with the Crow sent directly to the tribunal.

The case will be heard by the three-person tribunal from 1700 AEDT on Tuesday, the AFL has confirmed.

Some players and commentators are claiming inconsistency when comparing McAdam's act with a similar bump from Kysaiah Pickett which resulted in a two-game ban for the Melbourne star.

Match review officer Michael Christian graded McAdam's bump as severe impact, careless conduct, and high contact.

Pickett has accepted a two-game suspension for a bump graded as high impact, careless conduct and high contact.

Adelaide could seek to bring Pickett's bump on Bulldog Bailey Smith into McAdam's hearing given the similarities.

In both cases, the respective victims continued playing.

Sydney megastar Lance Franklin accepted a one-match ban for his bump on Gold Coast backman Sam Collins, which was graded as careless conduct, medium impact and high contact.

Collingwood stalwart Scott Pendlebury was among those calling for change in the match review system, arguing players should be punished for their act, not the outcome.

West Coast's Tom Barrass (striking, $2000 fine) and Port Adelaide's Darcy Byrne-Jones (tripping, $1000) also took sanctions from the opening round.
