The spirit of friendship has extended across the Goulburn Valley.
Tallygaroopna Lions Club recently donated $2000 to Rochester Lions Club to assist the group with flood recovery.
Tallygaroopna Lions Club president Ron Jones said the money was “to help local businesses restart”.
“We decided instead of sending the money to some other thing where it might get eaten up, we decided to go straight to the source and give it to the Rochester Lions Club,” Mr Jones said.
“Because when we started 39 years ago, some of the Rochie Lions came over and helped us get started.”
The funds were raised by the group through its ongoing sale of pea straw, as well as members volunteering on the gate at Murray League football matches and holding a wood raffle.
“One of our Lions donates pea straw to us and we sell that throughout the year for gardens,” Mr Jones said.
“We deliver it within a 30- or 40-mile radius of Tallygaroopna.
“We have had one really badly impacted flood victim and we have helped them out a fair bit.”
