The network is the digital backbone of Australia, and it is constantly evolving and helps keep communities, businesses and all areas of society connected, and the nation productive.
nbn’s purpose is to help lift the digital capability of Australia by connecting homes and businesses across Australia and provide access to the positive social and economic benefits enabled by access to a secure digital backbone.
nbn is dedicated to the operation of a secure and reliable network that supports the nation’s economic activity, wellbeing and productivity.
High-speed broadband supports the way Australians work, learn, access health and other services. and the way we connect with family and friends.
nbn is rolling out the next evolution of the network through a $4.5 billion commitment to extend its capability and bring competition and improved service deeper into metropolitan, rural and regional Australia.
The network upgrades will make nbn’s higher wholesale speed plans available to up to 75 per cent of households and businesses in the fixed-line network by the end of 2023.
In March 2022, an investment in the nbn fixed wireless network was announced, benefiting thousands of homes and businesses across regional Australia.
The investment will expand the reach of the existing fixed wireless footprint by at least 50 per cent, as well as enabling two new high speed fixed wireless plans — 100 mbps and 250 mbps.
The additional capacity and reach available on the upgraded network will enable up to 120,000 existing satellite-only premises to access nbn fixed wireless.
From July 1, 2022, nbn introduced new data inclusion that will make VPN and video streaming uncapped for 16 hours each day, between mifnight and 4pm. This means it will not count towards a user’s monthly data allowance.
