SA struggle against WA in cup despite Manenti hitting

A swashbuckling half century from Ben Manenti has helped South Australia avoid disaster in their one-day cup match against high-flying Western Australia at Adelaide Oval.

South Australia were struggling at 5-107 before Manenti, with some help from Jake Lehmann, lifted the home side to 210 in a penultimate-round match between the competition's top-two sides.

However, the former's dismissal marked the beginning of the end with the Redbacks bowled out in just 47.3 overs.

Spinner Manenti came in at No.7 and struck six boundaries and three sixes in a rapid-fire knock of 61 from just 39 deliveries.

Manenti's rescue mission came to a close when he was caught on the boundary having posted the highest score of a seven-match career in the competition.

Lehmann, meanwhile, posted 43 off 60, while opener Henry Hunt contributed 28.

The wickets were shared among six bowlers with Jason Behrendorff impressing with 3-36.

Joel Paris returned 2-42 including the wicket of Manenti, while part-time spinner D'Arcy Short chipped in with 2-37.

Western Australia won five from five prior to the mid-summer break and can shore up hosting rights with victory in Adelaide.

The holders are seeking to bounce back after crashing to an unexpected Sheffield Shield defeat against SA.
