The investigation into the Lenne St drainage catchment aims to understand drainage issues in the area and identify improvement opportunities for stormwater networks in the area.
Residents on Lenne and Howe Sts and the surrounding areas were completely inundated, well above the 1974 flood level, with water taking nearly two weeks to go down.
Problems securing and operating pumps hindered efforts to drain water from the area.
A council spokesperson said the findings would be used to direct future drainage improvement works.
As part of the investigation, council is inviting residents of Mooroopna living between the Midland Hwy, Charles St and Toolamba Rd to attend an information drop-in session to discuss drainage issues during rain events and riverine flooding, as well as any other information that might help council during its investigations.
The drop-in session will be held on Thursday, February 16 from 5pm to 7pm at the Smyth Reserve Playground area, between Hall St and Howe St in Mooroopna.
Residents who are unable to attend are encouraged to discuss their concerns with council by emailing council@shepparton.vic.gov.au or phoning 5832 9700.
Meanwhile, council’s Social Recovery Quick Response Grant is now open to provide further assistance to community-led activities, four months on from the floods.
The grants will be for up to $1000 for small-scale projects that improve physical and mental health, build community resilience, assist community groups, address social isolation and respond to the impact of recent floods.
Council has put $20,000 into the kitty for grants.
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said council was excited to put money back into the community and “help the region on their path to recovery”.
“The October flood event left a devastating impact on the community,” he said.
“Many homes and businesses across the region were inundated with water and were faced with a huge clean-up and repair task.”
Grant applications will close on Monday, May 15 at 5pm, or until the funds are expended.
