Below are some of the highlights from Saturday’s action you may have missed.
Old Students’ B-grade outfit might be one of the unluckiest in all of the Cricket Shepparton competitions.
The Students, who have been involved in two dramatic tied matches this season, suffered a narrow and thrilling 14-run defeat to Waaia on Saturday.
Chasing Waaia’s total of 173, some sensational bowling from teenage star Kaleb Gilmour (5-34) restricted the home side to 159 from 39 overs.
At the start of the 35th over, Students needed a further 27 runs to secure victory from nine overs and with three wickets in hand, however, some sublime bowling from Gilmour and Greg Meyland (2-18) helped Waaia snatch victory.
It was only fitting that Gilmour ended his 10-over spell with consecutive wickets.
Saturday was a memorable afternoon for three young Mooroopna teenagers as they ticked off a career milestone.
Archie Loughran, Cooper Sleeth and Max Thomas made their senior cricket debut for Mooroopna in the side’s dominant win over Murchison at Pee Wee Young Oval.
It was quite the debut for all three young talents, especially Sleeth, who went on to craft his highest score.
Young talent time: Mooroopna youngsters Archie Loughran, Cooper Sleeth and Max Thomas.
The youngster crunched 51 runs on his way to his first half-century as he top-scored for the host in its 7-185 total.
Meanwhile, Loughran and Thomas got in on the fun with the ball and each finished with figures of 1-4 and 1-5 respectively.
