The song was commissioned by Catholic Education Australia, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Catholic teachings in the nation.
“The idea was to have a tour around Australia, and sing and speak to 750,000 teens,” he said.
“But with COVID-19 and everything that's happened - we've had to keep things local.
“And I know Shepparton to have the best of arts - it's amazing.”
Before gaining international recognition as a singer-songwriter on The X Factor, Father Rob was ordained as an associate priest at St Brendan's Parish.
He said it was a delight to reunite with students after six years.
“Walking through the hall, seeing familiar faces from St Brendan's Primary School and people surprised to see me has been really nice,” he said.
“It's like ‘oh man, I'm getting old!'”
The acoustic version of the track will be recorded alongside students from Notre Dame and St Brendan's.
“The song talks about the 200 year journey, but it's also about standing on the shoulders of a giant,” he said.
“Sometimes we try to live this life on our own two feet.
But through education, through the community we stand on each other's shoulders and the shoulders of God, to be able to see the world from a higher perspective.”
The music video will be released on Wednesday, February 17.
