The Sydney Thunder have set the Melbourne Renegades a target of 175 in their BBL match after Rilee Rossouw ensured they put a horror show in their last outing behind them with a powerful half-century.

Having won the toss and elected to bat at Marvel Stadium, the Thunder bounced back from being dismissed for a humiliating 15 runs in their previous match to reach 6-174 against the Renegades.

Rossouw (53 off 38 balls) made the most of successfully reviewing an lbw decision when he was on 31, and the Thunder were in trouble at 4-69, to propel them to a much more respectable total.

The South Africa batter plundered four sixes until Tom Rogers (2-41) struck in the power surge when Rossouw sliced a shot high to Kane Richardson.

Alex Ross (39 off 23) and Oliver Davies (33no off 18) put together an important 42-run partnership late to set the Renegades a tricky target.

Left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein (1-22) again opened the bowling for the Renegades and ensured the under-fire Thunder made a nervy start with a tight line in the powerplay.

England opener Alex Hales lifted the run rate when he smashed Hosein over the boundary to take the Thunder to the 15-run mark this time without loss, although Matthew Gilkes fell one run later.

Kane Richardson (1-25) used his experience to restrict the flow of runs at the death and give the Renegades hope of beating the Thunder for the first time in five clashes.
