Millar blitzed them at Howlong

Corowa junior Oliver Nelson receives his prize.

In an exciting, different way of golf, favourite star international with locals, Matt Millar won the inaugural Golf Blitz at Howlong last Sunday.

In the big field which included 24 professionals, Canberra-based Millar won a 4-way play-off, against Matt Stiegler, Jack Wilson and Ruben Lal.

Corowa junior Oliver Nelson defeated Howlong Golf Club President Mark Sarau to win a ticket to the national final in Adelaide on January 6.

Blitz is golf’s version of 20 overs cricket. Golfers play a six-hole event, the cut takes place and the field halved.

“The crowd defied the inclement weather with an estimated 300 people really enjoying the different format,” Howlong Golf Resort General Manager Shaun Whitechurch told The Free Press.

“The modified holes gave spectators a up close look at some of the country's best golfers as they shot the pins out.”
