Vaccinations will begin at the Shepparton Showgrounds site in the week beginning March 15, once the clinic set up is complete.
Specialised clinical equipment is currently being installed at the centre, as are resources required to provide a large-scale COVID-19 vaccination service in a community setting.
“The McIntosh Centre was previously used by GV Health with great success for COVID-19 asymptomatic swabbing, so we are pleased to continue the partnership with council for the COVID-19 vaccination program," GV Health chief executive Matt Sharp said.
"GV Health is very grateful for the support we have received from the Greater Shepparton City Council throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and this is another terrific example of that assistance as we work together to respond to the needs of the community."
Mr Sharp said the McIntosh Centre was the ideal facility for administering the COVID-19 vaccinations, as it met all the site requirements to deliver a safe and accessible model of care for the COVID-19 vaccine program.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Kim O’Keeffe said council was doing everything it could to assist GV Health with the planning and delivery of vaccination services by providing the hub.
"The modern facilities, large space, convenient location and ample parking will assist GV Health with their regional vaccination program," she said.
Priority 1a front-line healthcare workers will first receive the COVID-19 vaccine at the Graham Street campus of GV Health in Shepparton from next week.
The COVID-19 vaccine program will move to the McIntosh Centre once the premises is ready.
Other suitable sites across the GV Health vaccine hub catchment area are also being identified for delivery of the COVID-19 vaccination program across the region.
