Tat Chat - Merrigum bowls

Our division four Tuesday pennant team has earned the right to contest this season’s grand final.

We managed to win the preliminary final by one shot against Shepparton Park with the second last bowl of the day.

During the match there were 1200 bowls put down and it took us 1199 bowls to hit the lead.

This just goes to show you should never give up.

At certain stages we looked gone for all money but things changed over the last ends.

Joe Chant, Wayne Shepherd, Noreen Earl and Lee Chant faced Helen Paul and won by 11 shots.

They led for most of the day, but lost the last two ends to add to the drama.

Rob Dennis had a battle all day with his opponents and with one end to go he led by five shots.

Believe it or not they picked up six shots to also win by 11 shots.

As these two games finished well before the last game we were all on edge as the Merrigum team skipped by Barry Parsons were finding the going tough and was well down.

But as I said earlier you never give up and they had some late success.

I left the green to go and put all our gear back in the car and was prepared to shake hands and wish our opposition all the best in next week’s grand finale.

On nearing the green I was informed that the score was 80-all and one end to play.

Merrigum drew the shot with its last bowl and the Shepp skipper missed and Merrigum had somehow managed to win the match.

This week we play Nagambie, which has only won two rinks out of six in our last two encounters, so we feel we are not just filling in the space.

Good luck to both sides.
