Being forced to drive 10 minutes to Stanhope, or heading to Murchison or Tatura to fill up will be a thing of the past after a new Metro service station opened in the town in May.
Director Kim Kunda has been behind the counter for much of the first four weeks, and he said there'd been excitement about Rushworth having a service centre one more.
He and manager Lucky Thind will be the main operators of the Metro, with Mr Thind to move to Rushworth in the coming month or so.
The two are originally from Melbourne, but Mr Kunda said they'd jumped at the opportunity to open the centre in Rushworth.
“People are very excited. They always say ‘you've saved us going to Stanhope or Tatura or Murchison’," Mr Kunda said.
Mr Kunda said business hadn't boomed to begin with, with winter and Victoria's snap seven-day COVID-19 lockdown keeping people off the roads more than usual.
“The start is okay, not that bad, but we're only four weeks in,” he said.
“The lockdown is not helpful, winter is not helpful as well, so we'll see.”
He said donuts and more food would be added in coming weeks and months, while a mechanic would be set up out the back of the service centre.
The biggest drawcard so far outside the petrol was the Metro's slushie machine, which had drawn queues of children.
“We'll try some new things, but we've got cheap fuel and hopefully we get support,” Mr Kunda said.
“That's what we need, but hopefully we're going to survive."
