Golfers from Shepparton and Mooroopna represented their respective clubs with distinction at the Goulburn Murray District Pennant Finals, clinching victories down at Hill Top golf course.

Taking to the fairway in testing conditions on Sunday, July 19 down at the Tatura venue, the representatives from the Shepparton and Mooroopna Golf Clubs let nothing stop in their way of claiming the flag for their teams.
In fact, the representatives from the neighbouring institutions contested the Division 2 final, in what was one of the most compelling encounters of the day.
In the end, it was Mooroopna’s Paul McDonald, Jordy Geisler, Ben McGibbon, Adrian Gleeson and Cameron McNamara who clinched the spoils in the showpiece, navigating the first couple of holes at the iconic course in fog to prevail.
The battle for supremacy had been a more even affair during the opening three matches in the final - with Mooroopna leading 2-1 - but the side’s top end eventually saw out the victory to claim the win.

In the Division 1 final, Shepparton’s players had more reason to celebrate as they secured the flag with a hard-fought victory over long-term rivals Numurkah.
This time out, the Sheppartonians were the ones in a celebratory mood as a birdie from Hayden Kneebone got them over the line at the 23rd hole - after a captivating contest against Numurkah’s Brett Wildes which had been even from the 18th onwards.
Prior to that, Luke Dixon and Jeremy Rath had also secured wins in their match-ups, while Numurkah’s Brett Wildes and Mitch Grandell claimed victories to set up a nail-biting end to the day.
During the presentations after the festivities out on the green, GMGA President Bev Hutchins congratulated the teams that had competed in the finals, while also expressing gratitude to Hill Top staff and volunteers for their hospitality.
The venue had given up the course for the day so the finals could take place, while volunteers also undertook catering duties after the Hill Top Bistro was booked out for a wedding.
GMGA Secretary David Roberts also praised Nagambie’s David Love and Tocumwal’s Shane Halloran for their work in helping to organise the pennant season.
In addition, he paid tribute to the players for their spirited efforts on what proved to be a memorable day down in Tatura.
“All team captains thanked their opponents for the way in which the games were played and the GMGA for organising pennant,” a representative from the GMGA wrote.
“The other pleasing aspect of the day, certainly from the host's point of view, was the many positive comments made about the condition of the Hill Top course. Well done to the course staff and volunteers.”
