The second-year key forward may have taken 21 rounds to earn a debut at the top flight in his first season, but the 19-year-old Bears product hasn’t looked back since.
Playing with such consistency in a position typically requiring years of development, the AFL has rewarded Whitlock with a Rising Star award nomination after his influential output against Adelaide in round eight’s Showdown clash.
The Power tall kicked a goal from his career-high 14 disposals, clunked four marks, two of which were contested, and had three score involvements in Port Adelaide’s one-point loss.
The Rising Star nomination also reflects other performances throughout the season, and so far Whitlock’s portfolio of work in 2026 stacks up.
Whitlock has kicked multiple goals in four games this season, including a three-goal haul against West Coast in round three.
Port Adelaide general manager Ben Rutten lauded Whitlock for his outstanding start to the Power’s campaign.
“This nomination is a well-earned achievement for Jack, who has taken his game to a new level this year,” Rutten said.
“Jack works so hard to learn, improve his game and be the best contributor he possibly can be.
“He has been an asset to our AFL side this year and we can’t wait to see him continue his development in our program.
“It’s fantastic recognition for a really talented and driven young player.”
Shepparton Swans product Josh Rachele was lively in the Showdown too, kicking 2.3 for the night, while Bears premiership player Jordon Butts also featured.
