It was a good toss to lose with the pitch being undercover for 24 hours with recent rain and Beechworth sending the A Grade Lakers out to field.

Quick bowlers, Heslin and Webb opened the bowling with Heslin taking two early wickets.
Beechworth then steadied the ship with a 50 run partnership. Matt McCabe then was thrown the ball to break the partnership and did so with a great diving catch from his brother Brock McCabe.
Beechworth then making their way to 9/176 with some late big hitting off the Angus’s.
Webb and Heslin ending the innings with three a-piece.
Yarrawonga then in to bat full of home-made sausage rolls from a well done tea.
Smart and Knight kept it consistent this year with Smart being dismissed without troubling the score once again.
Knight struck it well for 19 until one got through, shortly after Brock McCabe was hitting some catching practice to second slip.
Then entered Webb and Wheeler.
After working on the relationship and running between the wickets during the week, the two put on a 129 run partnership, sneaking singles, picking gaps, hitting over the top and taking advantage of many misfields.
A textbook innings by both of the boys that never looked like they were going to be beaten, until Wheeler hit one out into the deep and departed on 67 from just 60.
In came A Grade debutant Hudson Gillies that did no wrong with the gloves earlier in the day to watch Webb from the other end finish the game off in style with an unbeaten 68.
Yarrawonga chased the total down in just 27.1 overs with a run rate of 6.6.
A great turn out from fans and teams with byes to watch Yarrawonga take the win.
Next week A Grade have Wangaratta Magpies at Norm Minns Oval.
A Res suffer first defeat
The A Res Lakers travelled to Norm Minns Oval to take on the Wangaratta Magpies and under new management after Captain Gillies was dropped to first grade, Jyda House took the reigns as team supervisor.
Jyda won the toss and selected to bowl. Neat bowling from Van Kreeck and the Mitchell brothers restricted the Maggies batsmen from getting off the chain.
Xave Mitchell collected the first wicket in the 14th over as runs continued to flow through the quick outfield until House broke through for the Lakers second, third and fourth wickets.
Kreeck and the younger Mitchell finished the innings off in style and prevented late order runs to spill. Magpies ending their batting innings 7/170.
Caleb Mitchell and Darcy Hargreaves set out for the chase but returned back to the sheds not long after. Cope and Taylor following suit to have the twos in trouble at 4/22 early on.
X Mitchell and Ethan Thorpe made batting look easy out there punishing any width to the boundary for a 60-run partnership.
Mitchell departed for 19 as Thorpe brought up his first A Res 50, Lakers at 6/93.
There were no more positives to take out of the innings, being bowled out for 97 in the 20th over.
The Lakers host Benalla Bushrangers at home next week and will look to vastly improve their batting.
Hoppers return to winners list
Tungamah 10/145 def Deniliquin Rhinos 10/107.
Tungamah returned to the winning list with a strong performance over a strong Deniliquin side on Saturday.
Captain Tom Irvine won the toss and elected to bat first at Finley, obviously believing in the old adage, runs on the board are money in the bank.
Despite the loss of an early wicket, Paul Begnone and Arnold steadily took the score along to 32 before both lost their wickets.
Brady Hayes 17, and Ben Beaton 18, then settled down to some good stroke play to put on a strong 40 run partnership.
Hayes, who was a powerful batsman many years ago before the club went into recess, is recapturing the old magic.
By this time, Tom Irvine had reached the crease and added a real touch of class to the proceedings.
Irvine kept a level head and good late wicket partnerships with Rory Saunders, 26, and Archie Doyle 30, putting the Hoppers in a strong position.
Irvine batted magnificently for his 52, the first half century by a Tungamah player for over 10 years.
The total of 145 was always going to be hard to get.
Tungamah’s bowlers then set to work, and soon had Deniliquin in a spot of bother.
Ben Beaton is a classy bowler with a very quick turn of pace, and his 3/21 made inroads into the lineup.
There was some concern among the Hoppers as Chris Pyle was batting so well, and reached 32 before Irvine trapped him lbw.
Noah Bradley put together 15 in good style, but Hayes was also showing his skill as a bowler with a couple of quick wickets.
Beaton finished with 3/21, Irvine 3/13 and Hayes 2/32 to ensure a good victory. Deni were all out for 107.
Much of Tungamah’s strong showing can be put down to a commitment to practice during the week.
Well done, Tungamah.
